Well, that’s got your attention, and it’s no trick. Amazon is genuinely donating some of its mammoth profits directly to charity, and it’s letting people like us decide where the money goes. As of this month, over £1.6M has been disbursed already.
Every page at amazon.co.uk has an almost identical counterpart at smile.amazon.co.uk. So, quite simply, whenever you want to buy something from Amazon you should buy from Smile.Amazon instead because whenever you do, a percentage of your payment will go straight to the charity of your choice. That’s it… there’s nothing more to it. No trick – just money for your chosen charity without even having to ask.

Of course, you may feel that there are more deserving charities than Chilworth Hall. Fair enough. Just go to Smile.Amazon and make your nomination but, one way or another, but why miss the opportunity to do someone some good with your shopping?
On Friday 7th June, Chilworth Moviola is showing Wild Rose (cert. 15), a young Glaswegian with dreams of going to the US. Rose-Lynn Harlan (Jessie Buckley) is a big character, with talent. All she wants is to get out of Glasgow and make it as a country singer in Nashville. Rose’s mother, Marion (Julie Walters), doesn’t approve and would rather see her stick to a cleaning job. But Rose finds unexpected encouragement from the middle-class lady of the house in which she works. Continue reading
Notice is hereby given that the next meeting of Chilworth Hall’s management committee will be the AGM at the Hall at 18:00 on Wednesday, 19th June. All residents of Chilworth are entitled to attend and to vote as the chairman and committee members stand for re-election. Anyone wishing to join the committee as a new member should give prior notice by e-mail to the Secretary, Joan Pryde.
The committee is actively seeking new members, particularly those with accounting or bookkeeping skills and experience, or those who wish to get involved in helping to organise events. Membership of the committee is entirely voluntary.
In recent years, the Hall has been significantly refurbished. There is still some work to do, but it is planned to be finished by late summer. After that the intention is to switch focus to making better use of the facilities available, raising money for local charities rather than for the Hall itself (which should now be self-sustaining).
Sharon Raichura has recently started running Pilates classes at Chilworth Hall during the day on every Friday including school holidays, and both are doing well. The intermediate class at 11:15 already has a waiting list, but the 12:15 class for beginners/improvers does still have some spaces.
Classes are for women and men, and class sizes are limited to twelve. The cost is £9 for the first class and then £52.50 for six weeks. For more information contact Sharon by e-mail or phone/text her on 07944 613418. There is also a website. Continue reading
