Roadworks update

There’s light at the end of the tunnel, but still a little more pain to endure.  Here’s the latest from Southampton City Council about completion of the works around the Chilworth roundabout.

“The works at Chilworth roundabout are due to enter their final phase on Monday 9th March, when we will be resurfacing it. They will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption and are anticipated to take three weeks. Work will take place during weekday evenings only from 10pm-6am.

We will start by closing the inbound lanes (including the M3 slip road) and Bassett Green Road at the roundabout junction, for seven nights. This is to allow us to carry out resurfacing and replace some kerbs on the Bassett Avenue centre island. Traffic wishing to reach Bassett Green Road will need to enter from the Stoneham Way end and the diversion route will maintain access to Bracken Place.

From Wednesday 18th March, we will then close the outbound lanes for eight nights. There will be no access to the roundabout from Winchester Road/Bassett Avenue roundabout. The exit from Bassett Green Road onto the roundabout will also be closed for the crew’s safety. Diversion routes for both closures will be advertised locally and online here. For more information about the Chilworth Roundabout works, visit our transport website.”

[Editor’s note: the two links in the original notice have been included for completeness, but the second one seems far more useful than than the first.]
