Chilworth falls within the parliamentary constituency of Romsey & Southampton North for which area Caroline Nokes was first elected as a Conservative MP in the May 2010 General Election. At the next General Election in May 2015, she was re-elected with a greatly increased majority which she sustained in June 2017 and easily held on to at the most recent General Election in December 2019.
As of June 2016, Write To Them ranked her 6th for responsiveness among all MPs (Very High), up from her ranking of 15th the previous year.
In July 2016, Ms Nokes was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Work and Pensions as part of a reshuffle by new Prime Minister Theresa May. Following the June 2017 election she became a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Cabinet Office and subsequently Minister of State for Immigration. There being no place for her in Boris Johnson’s first cabinet, she returned to the backbenches as an independent in July 2019 but was back in the fold by November.
