Baddesley Barnstormers have been performing pantomimes since the 1970s, originally based at the old hall in North Baddesley where the Co-op and a parade of shops stand today. The troupe grew over the years and now has members from Easteigh across to Hythe, with ages ranging from 11 to 70.
The last panto’ production was in 2009, after which the leading light, Dennis Bryant, decided to retire. However, there are still a few of the original group including ‘Dame’ John Holloway (John has perfected the role of panto dame over the last 40 years). Director Rachel Chadwick has forty years of acting experience and has been writing scripts and directing for the past twenty years. Other adult players have been part of the troupe since they were children.
The Baddesley Barnstormers are a talented group dedicated to keeping the tradition of amateur pantomime alive. Unlike many other amateur dramatic groups, scripts are written by a member of the cast and therefore are refreshingly original.
Rachel Chadwick says, “We are really pleased that Chilworth Village Hall is available for this season’s pantomime. We hope the people of Chilworth will welcome us and help this tradition continue. Anyone who would like to tread the boards or help with scenery or front of house would be very welcome and may find contact details at the Barnstormers’ website. (Forgive the lack of photos on the site, which is still being completed!)”
