Residents who drive Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) or similar may be interested to know that Southampton City Council now provides thirty free (for an introductory period) charging points spread across five of its multi-storey car parks in the city. Read all about it here.
(Per Southampton City Council) Phase one of the Bassett Avenue works, taking place between Winchester Road and Chilworth Roundabout, has been completed a few days ahead of schedule, despite the snow and ice last week. As a result Bassett Avenue was reopened both ways from 6am this morning (Friday 9 March).
Phase two of the work to resurface Bassett Avenue overnight will go ahead as planned from 8pm Monday 12 March. The resurfacing will require the full closure of Bassett Avenue in both directions between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday for up to three weeks.
In addition to studying law, Chilworth resident Jasmine Sandhu is proving to be something of an entrepreneur. Having discovered a passion for dance at a very early age, she has already met success when organising Bhangra/Bollywood Fusion dance classes in Southampton. Now she is set on repeating that by putting them on at Chilworth Hall, starting on 9th February.
In her own words: “I decided to start my dance business last summer and it’s gone really well – it pulled the Southampton community together, and we feel like a family. I aim to promote equality, diversity, mental wellness as well as physical fitness. Seeing happy faces and knowing how much students enjoy my class is the best feeling – dance is everything to me! It’s especially satisfying when parents tell me how much confidence their children have gained, as I can empathise with that from my own experience.”
Find out more, including how to contact Jasmine, by visiting her her business’s website.
On Mothers Day (11th March) Rochelle Parks and Sally Wilkinson will be putting on a family Yoga event at Chilworth Hall. Rochelle normally puts on Sunday Flow & Chill sessions at the Hall, but this is a little different. Sally is a specially trained children’s Yoga teacher and she will lead a fun storytelling Yoga sequence. The event is open to adults and children (the latter should ideally be 4+ and able to focus for an hour)
£6.50 per person. For more information e-mail Rochelle or call her on 07716 410799.

Chilworth residents may be interested to know about some motorway closures that will take place soon to facilitate resurfacing and ‘smartening’ of the M27. As you’ll see from the letter here, diversions will push traffic onto the A27 through Chilworth. The poor standard of English grammar employed leaves the message open to interpretation. The first two closures are clearly overnight lane closures only. It’s not entirely clear that the subsequent four week complete closure eastbound and four week complete closure westbound are also overnight only. We must hope so, or else February and March would be good months to be away on a cruise!
