Nearby Events – Aug 2021

Below is the usual monthly digest of upcoming events in our region. If you know of any others that you think are worth including, please send details to the Editor. Two in particular are worth highlighting. From 1pm-3pm on 25th August at Romsey Town Hall there’s a free “well-being” event for those nervous about getting back to mixing. There’ll be two interesting speakers plus tea and cake to enjoy. Numbers will be limited so please book by calling 01794 512847. Then there are the Park Proms to be held at Broadlands. On Friday, 27th the Royal Philharmonic is joined by special guests including Aled Jones and Laura Wright. and on Saturday, 28th James Morrison stars, supported by Pixie Lott and others. Saturdays in August – Gosport – The Hovercraft Museum Open Days
The Hovercraft Museum is open every Saturday 10 am until 4 pm except for a brief closure during the Winter period. In addition to these hours, we offer special events throughout the year. We aim to have a summer season full of events and activities including the return of Hovertravel Ltd to provide pleasure flights around the Solent from our slipway on selected dates. Our volunteers will continue to get the collection ready for you to visit and we can’t wait to be able to welcome you through the gates once again!

Sundays in August – Bransgore – Friends Of The New Forest Airfields Open Days
We stage open days at the centre twice a month, 10am-4pm on Sundays, from March to October. We ask all visitors, except young children, to wear face coverings, to use the hand sanitising materials provided and to respect social distancing, as well as is possible. Saturday 7th August – Brooklands – Brooklands Relived
Step back in time to the heyday of the track as we relive the incredible thrill of a day at the Brooklands races. This year we will be celebrating the 95th anniversary of the first British Grand Prix, which was held at Brooklands on 7th August 1926. The incredible tales of this race will be brought to life as we bring racing back to Brooklands. Cars that competed in the race will take centre stage and some of them will be firing up their engines to take to the track again, exactly 95 years after they made their appearance in the first British Grand Prix. With a line-up of Grand Prix cars from the decades that followed that race, you will be able to trace the history and evolution of cars from the pinnacle of motorsport. Time 10:00am – 5:00pm. Sat 7th August – Popham – Aero-Auto Jumble, Classic Car Rally, & Vintage Fly-in
Our annual event attracts over 800 classic car exhibitors, 100 traders and in excess of 50 vintage aircraft. Regrettably, we will have to limit exhibitors to around 400 cars to enable social distancing etc. Due to the popular nature of this event and the ongoing coronavirus restrictions for visitors, traders and exhibitors, booking in advance is essential. There will be no entries on the day.

Saturday 7th – Sunday 8th August – Beaulieu – Supercar Weekend
We are pleased to announce the return of Beaulieu Supercar Weekend; the must-see family spectacular that brings some of the world’s most exclusive and desirable motors to Beaulieu. The Supercar Weekend is a must for all supercar enthusiasts, providing an opportunity to get almost close enough to touch these impressive motors! Your Supercar Weekend ticket includes entry to the Beaulieu attraction, including the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and World of Top Gear.

Saturday 14th August – Beaulieu – National Motor Museum Event
Celebrating the life of Murray Walker OBE. He was regarded by many as Formula 1’s greatest fan, a reputation gained through being identified as “the voice of Formula 1” for millions of fans around the world. For Murray Walker, motorsport on two wheels or four, and occasionally three was his life! From grand prix cars to touring cars, rallying to rallycross, or motor cross to club and international motorbike racing, one voice, down the decades, captured the excitement of it all! This event held in the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, is designed to celebrate his life and his unique contribution to the sport. With insights from former colleagues, friends and fans alike, this is an event where we say a heartfelt “Thank You” to such a unique character. 6pm – 10.30pm.

Sunday 22nd August – Brooklands Summer Classic Gathering
For 2021 we’ve moved our biggest event of the year to the Summer! Whether you drive a ‘Classic’ or not, the Summer Classic Gathering is open to everyone. There will be plenty of chances to grab a bite to eat or a refreshing summer drink and the Paddock will come to life with music and entertainment. There will be something for everybody amongst the diverse displays of classics all descending on Brooklands. Normal Museum admission charges apply. For ticket prices see
