Bournemouth Air Festival 2017
Free and by the Sea. Coming this year from 31st August to 3rd September, The UK’s biggest air festival is an unmissable weekend of wonder: in the air, on land and at sea. Award winning and internationally renowned, the Bournemouth Air Festival has welcomed more than 8 million people to the UK’s leading resort since its inception in 2008. The Patron’s Club has raised an estimated £100,000 for Air Festival charities, nominated by the Armed Forces. The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team will be appearing on three days of the four-day event. You can catch them at the following times: Thursday, August 31 – 6pm, Friday, September 1 – 3.30pm, Saturday, September 2 – 12noon. Salisbury – Old Sarum Airfield ‘Vintage Sunday’ Event
Our popular event for vintage and classic cars, motorbikes and aircraft. Join us on the first Sunday of every month for this informal gathering. Free. Arrivals from 10am. Free landings at Old Sarum for all aircraft registered before 1960.
Reduced entry (£5) to the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection for pilots of pre-1960 aircraft and drivers/riders of classic and vintage cars and motorbikes. On arrival, please follow the signs and look out for marshals who will direct you to a dedicated parking area. Cars and motorbikes must not enter the active airfield. Winchester – Science Centre & Planetarium Lecture Series
What is new in our Solar System? Dr Robin Catchpole (University of Cambridge). Robin Catchpole works as an astronomer at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge, having retired as Senior Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich in July 2004. After obtaining a BSc at University College London, he was posted to the Royal Observatory at the Cape of Good Hope, S Africa (now known as the South African Astronomical Observatory) and spent the next 24 years, working first at the Radcliffe Observatory in Pretoria and then at the SAAO in Cape Town. He then obtained his doctorate at the University of Cape Town on The Properties of the SC Stars and the Chemical Composition of UY Cen, under the supervision of Prof. Brian Warner. In 1991 he returned to the Royal Greenwich Observatory in Cambridge, until it closed in 1998, when he moved to Greenwich as Senior Astronomer. 4:30pm lecture £8/£6 and 6:30pm lecture £10/£8. Southampton Boat Show is a spectacular world class annual event held in September and attracts visitors, exhibitors and investors from all over the world. An on-water Show boasting Europe’s purpose built Show marina located in Southampton, the cruise and boating capital of the UK. The Show started in 1969 and is held annually in September. An important sales platform for both national and international businesses attracting over 110,000 visitors. The Show attracts high net worth individuals from the UK and around the world.
