Thursday 3rd November Salisbury – Museum of Army Flying Event

JEHU: Suez Landings 60th Operation Musketeer 6 November 1956 Colonel Roger Harris shares memories of the Joint Experimental Unit (JEHU) and its participation in Operation Musketeer 6 November 1956. The Suez Landings was the first ever heliborne assault over a defended coastline. 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm Tickets £10.00. Wednesday 9th November Winchester – Science Centre & Planetarium Lecture

Sun Dogs and Blue Moons by Prof Don Kurtz. The sky has many beautiful phenomena caused by the interaction of light with the air: blue skies, red sunsets, rainbows, glories, haloes, green flashes, sun dogs and blue moons. We will see pictures of these and learn where to see them and how they are formed. We will also see and learn about a blue sky on Saturn, murky sunsets on Mars, the black skies of many moons, and speculations about the skies on some of the more than 5000 exoplanets that have been discovered in recent years. 4:30pm lecture £8/£6 and 6:30pm lecture £10/£8. Wednesday 9th November Southampton – Solent Sky Aviation Enthusiasts’ Evening

Solent Sky Aviation Enthusiasts’ Evening. Designing, Building and Flying the Saunders-Roe Princess Model by Mike Roach.  This evening event has been arranged as a special opportunity for members and friends of local aviation groups and societies to come along to the Solent Sky Aviation Museum and at the same time help to raise funds for the museum.  Doors open at 18.00 for a start at 19.00, there will be tea, coffee and biscuits available and the evening will close at 21.00.  Albert Rd S, Southampton SO14 3FR.  Car parking is on the roadside in Albert Road South. Monday 21st November Eastleigh – Bishop’s Waltham Aviation Group Lecture

‘From Harriers to Falcons – Military Flying in the Modern Era’ by Simon Jessett. Simon entered the RAF from school and prior to concluding his career as a Wing Commander flew over 2000 hours in the Harrier, including missions enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq and as a participant in the Nato bombing of Kosovo. In 2010, within months of his appointment as commander of No.4 Squadron, the scrapping of the Harrier prompted his own retirement from the service. Now Falcon 20 Captain and Head of Training at Cobham Air Services, Simon’s continuing military involvement provides further fascinating insights into the evolving role of air power in defence. Thursday 24th November Newport IoW – Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) Solent Network, Isle of Wight Section

Electric Vehicles and the Rocky Road to Green Transportation by Dr Peter James and Lyra Electronics Ltd. Over the last few years more and more electric vehicles can be seen on our roads as more vehicle manufacturers offer all electric or hybrid electric cars. This talk outlines where we are regarding currently available electric vehicles, details the power and charging requirements of these vehicles and looks to the future of the electric vehicle. The talk also shows some motorsport competitions where electric vehicles are used and discusses how they perform and how motorsport can increase the acceptance and desire of electric vehicles. 7:00 for 7.30 pm The Bargeman’s Rest, Newport – The Sail Loft room.
