Saturday 3rd June Fareham – HMS Collingwood Open Day 2017
HMS Collingwood, Fareham, opens its gates for the annual Open Day, sponsored by Eight Wealth Management, featuring the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) Field Gun Competition.
Sunday 4th June Southampton – Solent Gardeners’ Fayre – 10am-4pm
A visit to the Solent Gardeners Fayre has become a must for all keen gardeners and craft enthusiasts. With over 70 exhibitors, free car parking, Michelmersh Silver Band, Southampton Ukulele Jam & children’s entertainment and refreshments, the Fayre provides an excellent day out for all the family. Sunday 4th June Salisbury – Old Sarum Airfield Event
A popular event for vintage and classic cars, motorbikes and aircraft. Held on the first Sunday of every month as an informal gathering. Free entry. Arrivals from 10am Free landings for all aircraft registered before 1960. On arrival, follow the signs and look out for marshals who will direct you to a dedicated parking area. Wednesday 7th June Romsey – South Hampshire Historical Aviation Society (SHHAS) Talk
‘Airshows’ a talk by Phil Holt. Philip Holt began his career in 1972, since then he has given over five hundred presentations to audiences from twenty to over 1,500, formal and informal, male, female or mixed audiences. He joined National Air Traffic Services (NATS) in 1972 as an Air Traffic Controller, a career spanning almost 40 years serving at seven locations, including London Heathrow, the busiest airport in the world. Wednesday 14th June Winchester – Science Centre & Planetarium Lecture Series
When Galaxies Collide by Professor Carolin Crawford (University of Cambridge). There is a whole Universe of galaxies out there, displaying a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Carolin will be talking about those ‘peculiar’ galaxies that appear very different from their mainstream counterparts – galaxies which have been pulled together and then pulled apart by gravity to make some of the most spectacular deep sky objects. Carolin will discuss the toll that such an encounter exerts on an individual galaxy’s properties, and the wider implications of the phenomenon. 4:30pm lecture £8/£6 and 6:30pm lecture £10/£8. Friday 7th July Larkhill – Special Wings Over Stonehenge – A Unique Bristol Scout Returns to Larkhill
A Bristol Scout biplane will return to the Grade II Listed Flying Sheds at Larkhill for the first time in 103 years. The prototype Scout flew for the first time from Larkhill in February 1914 and no Bristol Scout has been seen there since. Scout C Serial No.1264, one of a batch produced in the Summer 1915, was recreated from three original parts kept as a souvenir by Flt Sub Lt F.D.H Bremner RNAS. She is the only airworthy Scout in the world today. This will also be a rare chance to see inside the historic Grade II listed flying sheds at Larkhill, which are normally closed to the public. To mark this unique occasion there will be a programme of engine runs, photoshoots, presentations and displays throughout the day telling the story of the Scout, its pilots, and the amazing recreation of this particular aircraft. 10.00am until 3.00pm Wood Road, Larkhill.
