‘Smart’ M3 Upgrade

[For the background to this, please refer to the recent website newsletter. Following is the latest update from the lead contractor, Balfour Beatty. For as long as these updates are provided, this post will be amended and moved up the posting list.]

Work to improve journeys by upgrading the M3 motorway is planned to start later this year. We’ll be installing narrow lanes in both directions between junction 9 at Winchester and junction 14 at Eastleigh, and the hard shoulder will be used as a running lane. This will provide a safe working area in the central reservation, whilst keeping three lanes open during the daytime.

To get the hard shoulder ready for this, preparation work continues under daytime hard shoulder closures, overnight lane closures with some planned carriageway and/or slip road closures. All traffic management for full overnight carriageway and/or slip road closures will usually be rolled out from 9pm and taken off by 6am.

Fraud & Cyber Crime

Hampshire Alert and Action Fraud are jointly pushing a survey on Cyber Crime. Fraud is common, and 85% of frauds have a cyber element to them. If you have two minutes to spare, please complete the survey here.  If you don’t wish to do the survey, here are two worthwhile services that you may have learned about otherwise.

  1. You may report suspicious e-mails to report@phishing.gov.uk
  2. You may forward suspicious texts to 7726

Remembrance Sunday

There will be an Act of Remembrance Service at Chilworth War Memorial (opposite the Chilworth Arms) on Sunday 14th November.  Please assemble there at 10.40 am for a 10.45 start. Names of those who died in the two World Wars will be read out and there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths during the service.

Firearms Licensing Survey

Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner wants to understand the public’s views and ensure they are heard by the Home Office when considering possible revisions to the current rules and processes around licensing of firearms in England and Wales. At the end of last year (2020/21), more than 565,000 people in England and Wales held a firearms licence and/or a shotgun certificate. You may access the survey here. Continue reading

HCC Recycling Pilot Scheme

Hampshire County Council, in partnership with its waste contractor Veolia, has given the go ahead to develop a trial project that aims to both provide people in need with access to low-cost furniture and reduce the amount of bulky waste requiring disposal through landfill. If successful, this could be a big deal. Read all about it here.
