Alison’s Funeral

Alison’s daughters, Heather and Fiona, have circulated details of the funeral arrangements. Because of COVID-19, numbers attending are extremely limited so if you have not received an invitation from the family then please do not attend the crematorium.

However, we are all welcome to line the route of the cortege as it passes through the village, and to view the live webcast so please feel free to pass this information on appropriately.

On Monday, 19th October, at approximately 1.30pm the cortege will leave Southerly, in Chilworth Ring, and make its way towards Southampton Crematorium via Hadrian Way, Heatherlands Rd, Chilworth Rd, Chilworth Roundabout and Bassett Green Rd. Continue reading

Alison Finlay

It’s extremely sad to have to report the passing of one of our village’s best-known and well-loved characters. For some years now Alison Finlay has been the Test Valley Borough Councillor for Chilworth and it’s hard to imagine that anywhere has ever had a more active, conscientious and diligent councillor. She also spent many years in a parallel role as a parish councillor, chairing the PC for some time when the previous incumbent became too sick to carry on. Continue reading

It’s not too late!

That’s the theme of the tennis club’s membership drive. Because of COVID-19, Chilworth Tennis Club was unable to hold its annual Open Day this year.  That doesn’t mean to say that they’re not looking for new members though.  Please read on for more details, including much reduced membership fees and a downloadable application form. The Tip – New Regime

The planned registration scheme for Hampshire Waste & Recycling Centres, noted on this site in early January, has been postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. From Monday, 15th June, the number of visits to these centres will be severely restricted, and you will only get in if you have made a time-sensitive booking.  Read all about it here.

CCTV at Chilworth Hall

Chilworth Hall remains closed, but its car park is still available for those who visit the Village Green (which belongs to the Parish Council, and not the Hall). A matter of days before the lockdown began, CCTV was installed at the Hall. There is now a camera monitoring the whole of the car park with some visibility onto the Green. Residents involved in any unfortunate incidents in the car park (e.g. theft of or from vehicles, confrontations, dog-fights etc) should promptly contact the Hall’s management to see if they can secure evidence. A note of the precise time of the incident would be helpful.

Online help for crime victims

The Victim Care Service, funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner and provided by Victim Support, has launched a new website to ensure anyone affected by crime in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton can access support and advice.

The website offers tips on how to protect yourself from different types of crime and advice on what to do if you experience them. It also includes a comprehensive database of organisations that can be searched by individuals and professionals looking to meet a specific support need. Continue reading
